Computational Intelligence, Statistics, and Data
Mining in Earth Science
Ever increasing speed
and lower
costs achieved by today's computer technology continues to spawn a
wealth of new data types and analysis methods. Nowhere is this more
true than in Earth science. New, innovative instruments collect vast
amounts data, and new science data processing algorithms turn this raw
information into valuable but massive geophysical data sets. However,
most traditional analysis methods used in Earth science can't exploit
these data because of their size, complexity, distribution over
physical locations, and mis-matches in statistical characteristics. The
intent of this special session (part of the IEEE Symposium on
Computational Intelligence and Data Mining) is to solicit, show-case,
and discuss recent developments in computational technologies,
statistics and data mining that contribute to scientific understanding
from massive Earth science data sets. These data sets include remote
sensing data from satellites and aircraft, in-situ observational data
such as those from seismic and sensor networks, and massive data sets
produced by models. Key problems include data mining and statistical
analysis of distributed data, data fusion, understanding the evolution
of spatial and temporal structures and their physical interpretations,
and comparison of model generated and observational data sets for the
purpose of improving the models.

Young Statisticians Meeting (YSM) 2007
This annual conference
is open to
statisticians in the early years of their career, from both academia
and the business world. It provides an excellent opportunity for young
statisticians to network amongst their peers and present research from
a variety of statistical topics they have been involved in during their
own studies or early career.

Joint ENBIS-DEINDE 2007 Conference
The ENBIS-DEINDE 2007
Conference
aims to join people working on Design of Experiments and related
fields. DEINDE was first introduced in the early nineties as a forum
for researchers and practitioners alike to discuss topics related to
industrial experimentation. This conference is to join common areas of
interest of DEINDE and ENBIS organizations. The conference intends to
bring together both leading experts and researchers, thus creating a
forum to cover recent progress and to stimulate exchanges among active
researchers. It will also encourage informal contacts and discussions
among participants.

32nd Annual Spring Lectures in the Mathematical
Sciences: Spatial and Spatio-Temporal Statistics
Organized by the
Department of
Mathematical Sciences at the University of Arkansas to take place at
the Center for Continuing Education, 2 E Center Street, Fayetteville,
AR 72701. The main goal of the 32nd Spring Lecture Series is to bring
together leading experts, young researchers and graduate students in
the area of Spatial and Spatio-Temporal Statistics. The conference will
review recent developments, present the state of the art in the field
and point to important challenges and open problems. The conference
will have a series of five one-hour lectures, nine one-hour talks
delivered by invited speakers on topics that complement and expand the
content of the lectures. The conference will also include contributed
talks and a poster session, which provide the main avenue for active
participation of graduate students and junior researchers.

Eleventh Biennial CDC &ATSDR Symposium on
Statistical Methods
Statisticians, social
and
behavioral scientists, epidemiologists, economists, policy analysts,
and others are invited to participate in the Eleventh Biennial
Symposium on Statistical Methods, sponsored by the CDC & ATSDR,
the
ASA and the Biostatistics Department at Emory University Rollins School
of Public Health. The theme for the 2007 Symposium is "Analyzing and
Mapping Health Inequities to Impact Policies for Eliminating
Disparities." Two short courses on related topics will be offered on
April 16 in conjunction with the symposium.

Twenty First New England Statistics Symposium
The Department of
Statistics at
the University of Connecticut is proud to host this symposium. Our
purpose is to bring together statisticians from all over New England at
a central location. The symposium provides a unique opportunity for
statisticians working in academic institutions, government agencies and
industry to exchange ideas on latest advances in research and
technology. Special efforts will be made to attract graduate students
and young researchers to attend this symposium and present a lecture in
one of the contributed sessions. Paul Dupuis, Brown University, and
Nitis Mukhopadhyay, University of Connecticut, will present plenary
lectures. Several special theme sessions will be arranged as well. In
addition, there will be numerous contributed sessions. Presentations on
all aspects of probability and statistics and their applications are
welcome.
