Joint Statistical Meeting and International Conference on Statistics, Probability and Related Areas The objective of this conference is to assess recent developmentos in the fields of Statistics and Probability and to discuss future directions in termos of theory, practise and education. One of the primary goals is to foster international collaboration in these and related areas through the exchange of ideas and experiences and to enhance other technology transfer activities. Reforms needed in statistical education and training in order to meet the changing needs of the industry and government will receive special attention. Winter School "Geometric Measure Theory, Random Sets and Digital Stereology" The modern theory of random sets is strongly based on results in geometric measure theory and has important applications in digital stereology. The aim of the winter school is to give an overview of this area that ranges from classical generalizations of differential geometry over stochastic geometry to recent applications in the analysis of digital images. The fourth meeting of the Eastern Mediterranean Region of the International Biometric Society (EMR-IBS) A pre-conference reception will be held on the evening before the conference. The lead organizers of the conference are Orly Manor, Hebrew University School of Public Health, and David Zucker, Hebrew University Department of Statistics. The conference will include three full days of sessions. The first of these three days will be a special one-day symposium in honor of Marvin Zelen on the occasion of his 80th birthday. This special symposium is under the joint auspices of EMR-IBS and the Harvard School of Public Health, and is being organized jointly by Marvin's former doctoral student Ori Davidov, now at Haifa University, and Stephen Lagakos of the Harvard Department of Biostatistics. A slate of distinguished invited speakers has been lined up for the conference, and we look forward to a very stimulating meeting.
