The Third Erich L. Lehmann Symposium
"The Third Erich L.
Lehmann
Symposium" Rice University May 16 - 19, 2007 The four-day conference is
the third of a series of symposia. The goal of the symposia is to
examine the role that Optimality can play, or should play, in modern
statistics. Due to the advent of high throughput data collection
technology and the parallel development of computing power to analyze
such data, it often happens that statistical theory gives way to
computing power. Although most of the new exciting statistical
methodologies have provided tools to make headway in many important
scientific problems, a need to generalize and systematize this
knowledge is now quite evident. The Symposia will take place at Rice
University and will bring together a group of experts to discuss
cutting-edge research optimality ideas in the context of modern
statistical methodologies.

United
States Conference on Teaching Statistics (USCOTS 07)
The second biennial
United States
Conference on Teaching Statistics (USCOTS 07) will be held on May
17-19, 2007 at the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, hosted by
CAUSE, the Consortium for the Advancement of Undergraduate Statistics
Education. The target audience for USCOTS is teachers of undergraduate
and AP statistics, from any discipline or type of institution. Teachers
of statistics at two year colleges and those planning a career in
statistics education are especially encouraged to attend. The theme of
USCOTS 07 is "Taking Statistics Teaching to the Next Level." Some
topics include developing the second course; increasing student
motivation; taking student learning to the next level using the latest
technology; and implementing the GAISE guidelines. USCOTS 07 is a
'hands-on' conference with plenary sessions from leaders in statistics
education, working breakout sessions, interactive idea exchange forums,
and networking opportunities. Registration includes conference lunches
and a banquet dinner. Resource materials on teaching statistics will
also be provided to all participants. Some registration grants are
available.

International Conference of Forum for Interdisciplinary Mathematics on
Interdisciplinary Mathematical and Statistical Techniques
The Forum for
Interdisciplinary
Mathematics and, Department of Statistics and Finance-University of
Science and Technology of China are proud to co-organize international
conference/workshops at Shanghai Institute of Advanced Studies,
Shanghai, China. The academic activities of the conference will be in
all areas of mathematical and statistical sciences including:
bioinformatics and biostatistics, combinatorics and graph theory,
computer and information sciences, environmental statistics, financial
mathematics and econometrics and operations research. Proposals to
organize a symposium should be sent to the organizers by January 15,
2007. The conference will also highlight following exclusive features:
1. A short course/workshop on "Statistics, Geometry and Brain Mapping."
2. A short course/workshop on "Sequential Statistical Methods in Design
and Analysis of Clinical Trials." 3. A separate section on student
paper competition. A selection panel will judge the presentations for
awards. 4. Poster sessions. 5. A must-attend session on "Editors
RoundTable;" to help scholars appreciate the "current trends and
techniques" of scholarly publications.

Annual Spring Research Conference on Statistics in Industry and
Technology
The 14th Annual Spring
Research
Conference (SRC) on Statistics in Industry and Technology will be held
May 21-23, 2007. The conference will take place on the campus of Iowa
State University in Ames, Iowa, and will be hosted by the ISU
Department of Statistics. The SRC is an annual conference jointly
sponsored by the Institute of Mathematical Statistics (IMS) and the
Section on Physical and Engineering Sciences of the American
Statistical Association (ASA/SPES). The goal of the SRC is to promote
cross-disciplinary research in statistical methods for engineering,
science and technology. The conference brings together statisticians,
researchers in the application areas, and industrial practitioners
working in these areas. It provides a forum where participants can
describe current research efforts, identify important problems and
areas of application, and formulate future research directions.

held on the
campus of Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. It is co-sponsored
by Ball State University and the Biopharmaceutical Section of ASA.
Peter Thall (M.D. Anderson Cancer Center) will present a
½-day
short course on Bayesian Dose-Finding. The plenary speakers include
Norman Breslow (University of Washington) on Design and Analyses of
Two-Phase Stratified Case-Cohort Studies and Jason Hsu (Ohio State
